Description
The Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities (TFHaC) was formed on the 8 September 2020 following the 2020 Legislative Assembly election. The department combines the existing functions of the former Territory Families (TF); Housing and Indigenous Essential Services from the former Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development (DLGHCD); Disability from the Department of Health (DOH); Arts and Culture, Sport and Heritage from the former Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture (DTSC) and Interpreters from the former Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development (DLGHCD) with the exception of the Aboriginal Interpreter Service which is now with the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet. (CM&C) With this major realignment, the department became a multi-functional human services and community-focused agency providing comprehensive community services covering a diverse range of government portfolios, including urban and remote housing; child protection; youth justice; family support services; domestic, family and sexual violence reduction; sport and recreation; heritage; arts; culture; disability services; Indigenous essential services; multicultural interpreter and translation services; libraries and archives; multicultural affairs; seniors; youth; gender equity and diversity; and Welfare Group responsibilities under the Northern Territory Emergency Response Plan.
